Memorial service for Raymond Joseph “Ray” Landis, age 64, of Decatur, will be Friday, December 28, 2018, 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Seth Olson and Susan Sloan officiating. The family will receive friends in the parish hall for one hour prior to service. Shelton Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mr. Landis passed away at home on Sunday, December 23, 2018, following a strong fight with cancer. Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ray was a son of James Howard Landis and Dorothy Brock Landis.
A graduate of Ramsey High School in Birmingham, Ray received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama, and he was a registered professional engineer. Ray was the founder and principal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems, Inc., and was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He was a talented engineer who loved his family, fishing, and flying.
Survivors include his sons, David Raymond Landis (Hollie), of Dallas, Texas, Joseph Stephen Landis (Thuy), of Melbourne, Florida, and Paul Swain Landis (Beth), of Greenville, South Carolina; his former wife, Sharon Swain Landis; three brothers, James Howard Landis Jr. (Deidre), George Brock Landis (Marilyn), and Warren Eugene Landis (Suping); one sister, Amy Rebecca Landis; and his beloved grandchildren, Andrew and Connor Landis, Daphne, Derek, and Dylan Landis, and Mac and Elizabeth Landis.
Surviving him from his second marriage are his wife, Kathy Lowrance Burkett Landis, of Decatur; her siblings, Roy E. Lowrance (Judith Carlin), of New York, New York, Roger Thomas Lowrance, of Houston, Texas, Barbara J. Lowrance and Patty Jean Boldin, both of Decatur; and beloved grandchildren, Patricia Lowrance, Alan Lee and Samantha Lauren Burkett, and Shelby Boldin.
