Raymond Earl Lee – Obituary

Raymond Earl Lee, age 74, of Carbon Hill and Birmingham, passed away suddenly on Feb. 6, 2017. He had been diagnosed ten years ago with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis which had recently gotten worse.

Raymond was preceded in death by his Father-Raymond Lee and Mother-Barbara Tune Lee.

He is survived by his Wife-Sally Jordan Lee of Birmingham; Sons-Jeffrey Alan Lee of Kansas, Al., and Barry Andrew Lee of Ellijay, Ga.; Step son- Will Dailey of Pell City, Al. and Step daughter-Sarah Elizabeth Malcolm of Paris France. He also leaves behind his 3 year old beloved grandson- Jordan, of Paris, France, who was the light of his life.

Raymond graduated from Carbon Hill High School in 1961. Feb. 5, 1962, he went to work for Western Electric installing central office telephone equipment. It was with with Western Electric that he developed his Electronic Switching System computer background. May, 1971, he began working for Alabama Power Co. at Gorgas Steam Plant maintaining Boiler, Turbine, and Computer control systems. After his retirement in 1997, he worked as a contractor for Southern Company on Digital Control Systems and developing computer graphics.

Raymond was an avid Alabama football fan and was known for telling everyone that he “ran Roll Tide Headquarters”. He was a private pilot with an instrument rating and loved flying.

In lieu of flowers, Raymond requests donations be made to UAB lung disease research.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 13, from 11AM until 1PM at Collins-Burke funeral Home Chapel, 303 Oak Hill Road, Jasper, Al. 35502
The funeral service will follow at 1PM with burial up on “Nubbin Ridge”, McDade Cemetery, in Carbon Hill, immediately following.
