Memorial service for Ralph Stewart Hayes, Jr., age 69, of Decatur, will be Saturday, May 16, 2015, 3:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service.
Mr. Hayes, who died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Decatur Morgan Hospital following a brief illness, was born May 18, 1945, in Jefferson County, to Ralph Stewart Hayes, Sr. and Edna Bradley Hayes. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Delisa Austin, his parents, one brother, Randy Hayes, and his brother-in-law, Mack Comer. Mr. Hayes was a U. S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam. Following his military career he was an elevator mechanic and inspector. He was a member of the Lunar Masonic Lodge 918 in Madison.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Garrett Hayes; three daughters, Rainy Holt (Tony), Sunnie Holden (Jeff), and Madison Emerson (Josh); two brothers, George Bivens Hayes (Paulette) and Roger Wayne Hayes; two sisters, Gail Comer and Sylvia Brown; six grandchildren, Channing Austin (Kayla), Cole Holt, Carson Holt, Tanner Holden, Sydney Holden, and Kyleigh Blackney; three great-grandchildren, Brody, Gunner, and Colt; and a host of nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
