Ralph Boyd McGough, 87, of Clanton, passed away on Jan. 10, 2024, at Shelby Ridge Rehabilitation in Alabaster, Alabama.
He was born in Nauvoo, Alabama, on July 29, 1936, the son of the late Belton McGough and the late Hazel Northcutt McGough.
He worked at Prestolite in Decatur, Alabama, as a machinist in the 1960s. After learning the bakery trade from his father-in-law, Malcolm Noles, he opened R&S Bakery in Decatur, Alabama, in 1969. In the 1970s he moved his business to Fayette County, Alabama, and operated one of the first bakeries in a supermarket chain (Foodway Supermarkets) in the state of Alabama. He worked as a bakery/deli specialist with the Bruno’s/Food World Grocery chain from 1984 until 2003 in Alabama and surrounding states.
He liked Alabama football, visiting state parks, and working in his yard. He will be best remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sandra Noles McGough of Clanton; son, Rob McGough of Hartselle; grandsons, Matt McGough, Sam McGough, and Ben McGough, all of Hartselle; great-grandchildren, Carter, Knox, and Oakley; brother, Robert McGough of Nauvoo; brother, Jerry McGough of Madison; sister, Shirley Guthrie of Nauvoo; and his life-long friend and co-worker, Ronnie Lewis of Athens.
He is preceded in death by his son, Randall Kent McGough.
