SHEFFIELD-The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Areaโ€™s updated exhibit on the Old Railroad Bridge, in
Sheffield, opens Monday, Aug. 18, at the Courtland Public Library.

โ€œThe Memphis & Charleston Railroad Bridge: Connecting the Shoalsโ€ is a six-panel traveling
exhibit focusing on the bridgeโ€™s history.

โ€œThis exhibit explores how the bridge enabled new forms of local transportation, from railroads
to automobile travel, and how the โ€˜openingโ€™ of northwest Alabama to commerce had far-
reaching impacts on the people living here,โ€ said Clayton Davis, MSNHA historic resources
manager. โ€œWe wanted to share the fascinating history of this remarkable site and make the
story accessible to everyone.โ€

Leaving Courtland on Sept. 4, the exhibit goes to the Historic Decatur Union Depot, Sept. 8-26;
Athens-Limestone Public Library, Sept. 29-Oct. 17; and Leighton Civic Center, Oct. 20-Nov. 7.

The exhibit is funded in whole by an Alabama Humanities Alliance grant. Admission is free.
