Funeral service for Rachel Summerford Fowler, 92, will be Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Geoff Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Herring Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 2:00-3:00 PM at the funeral home.

Rachel Fowler, passed away on September 20, 2023 at her residence. She was born October 13, 1930 in Morgan County, Alabama to Jim and Ella Summerford and later was raised by her mama, Ruby Summerford. She grew up in Morgan County with her five brothers and five sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Ruby Morris Summerford, brothers- Ralph Summerford, J.J. Summerford, Louyn Summerford, Hugh Summerford, sisters-Margaret Campbell, Stella Brown and Willie Monroe.

Rachel graduated from Falkville High School and then earned a degree from Auburn University. Rachel enjoyed many diverse careers while living in many different parts of the country. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood. She was an active member of PEO for over 60 years, was a Certified Master Gardener, and was always involved in her local community.

Rachel was married to Stewart Fowler for 41 years and she is survived by their three children: Hampton Fowler (Leona), Jim Fowler (Mary), and Amy Fowler Hall (Bryan); Grandchildren: Corey Fowler, Rachel Fowler, Kelsey Hall, and Hampton Hall; one brother, Jack Summerford (Barbara); two sisters: Nina Johnson (Waymon) and Sandra Anglea (Jack); along with several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Summerford, Jason Summerford, Wesley Anglea, John Monroe, Ernie Brown, Doug Summerford and Jimmy Anglea.

An additional memorial service will take place at Fairhaven Retirement Community in the chapel, 1424 Montclair Road in Birmingham.
