Mrs. Honey was born on July 11, 1925, in Lincoln County, TN, to the late Iliff Thomas Moffett and Nancy Manilla Smith Moffett. A dedicated mother, homemaker, and longtime employee of Amana, she lived her life with energy, kindness, and a servant’s heart. Known for her warm spirit and wonderful cooking, Oneida loved caring for others and brought joy to all who knew her.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church, she was actively involved in the Ladies’ Ministry and the YYs. Her faith and fellowship were central to her life; in a recent interview when asked what her secret to reaching the age of 100, she answered “Trust in the Lord.” Her most cherished role was that of “MeMa.” Nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Oneida passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, at Elk River Health and Nursing Center in Fayetteville.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Dudley Honey and wife Linda of Woodbridge, VA; daughter, Reta Darlene Honey Hiers of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Gregory Scott Hiers, Chad Stephen Hiers, Ryan Dustin Honey, and Randi Devon Honey Morgan; great-grandchildren, Zachary Scott Hiers, Hadley Anne Hiers, Julie Anne Leighton Temearest, Chloe Belle Morgan, Genevieve Davis Morgan, and Quinn Charlize Morgan; sisters, Peggy Land of Capac, MI, Shirley Pitts of Hartselle, AL, and Linda Woods of North Point, MI; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Honey; four siblings; and three half-siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Love Offering of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 623, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Rachel Oneida Moffett Honey.
