FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department issued a statement concerning a pursuit that took place after a report of a stolen vehicle:
“On Saturday, February 3 at approximately 2:47pm, a vehicle that was reported stolen was located by Florence Police officers.
Florence Police officers initiated a traffic stop when the suspect vehicle quickly accelerated; beginning a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle was occupied by three individuals. After several minutes, the occupants exited the vehicle and a foot chase ensued. All three occupants were captured by officers.
The patrol vehicle pictured below was involved in the vehicle pursuit. The vehicle was not on fire as the officer exited the vehicle. After the foot chase, a citizen flagged down a nearby officer to advise the patrol car was on fire. It is speculated that the patrol vehicle had a mechanical failure resulting in the fire. Thankfully, no officers were injured as a result of the fire.” ~ Florence Police Department
