LIMESTONE COUNTY-At its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Pryor Field Airport Authority board approved authorizing its Chief Executive Officer, Adam Fox, to execute a three-year contract with Rural Metro Fire Dept., Inc. to provide Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) services at Pryor Field Regional Airport (DCU).

Under the agreement, Rural Metro will provide ARFF coverage five days per week, with ten-hour operational days, supporting both based tenants and transient aircraft operating at Pryor Field. As part of the contract, Rural Metro will furnish all necessary personnel and equipment to meet the needs of the airport and its users. Services are starting February 2027.

“This agreement is a major step forward in enhancing the safety and readiness of Pryor Field Regional Airport,” said Adam Fox, CEO of the Pryor Field Airport Authority. “By partnering with Rural Metro, we are ensuring that our tenants, visitors, and the traveling public are supported by a dedicated professional ARFF team as our airport continues to grow.”

In addition to this new service, the Pryor Field Airport Authority is exploring the potential development of a dedicated fire station facility on airport property. The Authority is actively seeking funding opportunities to support design and construction of this future facility, which would further strengthen long-term safety, emergency response capability, and operational resilience at Pryor Field. Rural Metro will work from a temporary facility on the airport property until such time a new facility can be constructed.

“Establishing contracted ARFF services is an important milestone, and planning for a future fire station demonstrates our commitment to long-term investment in safety and infrastructure,” Fox added.

Pryor Field Regional Airport continues to expand its role as a key general aviation and business aviation hub for North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley, supporting a growing mix of corporate, cargo, military, training, and general aviation operations.
