POPE’S TAVERN ARCHAEOLOGY CLUB: Fossil Identification Workshop

FLORENCE-The Pope’s Tavern Archaeology Club will host a fossil identification workshop on Thursday, March 16th, 2023, from 6:00pm -7:00pm at Pope’s Tavern Museum, 203 Hermitage Drive, Florence, AL. The Pope’s Tavern Archaeology Club is an organization managed and supported by Pope’s Tavern Museum and dedicated to advancing archaeological education through community-based projects and public history while encouraging responsible and ethical practices of archaeology in the community. The club aims to be an organization where members can learn from each other through a common interest in the community’s past, through hands-on archaeology opportunities, public history projects, workshops, field trips, and discussions. Members under 12 must be accompanied by an adult during club meetings and activities. 

The workshop on February 2nd will be hosted by Dr. Greg Buckley, associate professor in the Department of Geoscience at the University of North Alabama.  Dr. Buckley will discuss the preservation of fossils throughout the region. The meeting is open to anyone who has an interest, and people are encouraged to bring their own fossils for identification.
