Ponciano “Andy” Andazola of Decatur, AL passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 at the age of 87. Andy was born to Arturo and Georgina Molina Andazola on December 16th, 1935 in Colonia Morelos, Mexico. He moved to the United States when he was 3 years old and was raised as a bilingual American in Florence, Arizona. He graduated in 1954 from Florence High School as a star athlete in football, baseball, basketball and track. In 1955 he joined the United States Marine Corp, “Semper fi.” While in the Marines he was a quarterback for the Marine Corp football team and played Volleyball as well. He traveled all over world serving our military and receiving several awards including Marine of the year. In 1977, after serving 22 and a half years, Master Sergeant Andazola retired from the Marines. In 1978 he moved his family to Decatur, Alabama and soon began a 40+ year career in the Aerospace industry at the Boeing Company. He was a materials specialist for the company until the end. He believed in the space program and its importance and loved his job and work family. He has been a member of St. Ann’s and Annunciation of the Lord since 1980 and has served as a Eucharistic Minister since the 1990’s. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Throughout the years he bowled in leagues in Decatur, played golf all over the world, coached little league football and would volunteer his time to help anyone he could. If you knew this man, your life was better for knowing him. We will miss you.
Andy is survived by his two daughters Georgina and Brandy Andazola his bonus daughters Nowela Supabedia, Diana Barnes, Cynthia Clark, Nicole Williams Berry and Audra Stallings Judkins, grandchildren Aleah Meeks, Christina Molette, and Krystal and Mary Baker, his sister Mary Carmen Andazola, brothers Armando (Jackie) Andazola, José (Karen) Andazola, brothers in-law Dennis and Patrick McCarrick, nieces Cecilia Haas, Lisa Lopez, Gabriella Andazola, Susan Cosgrove, and Jennifer McCarrick, nephews Sam Andazola, Alexander Andazola, Arturo Andazola, Steven Lopez, Robert Mobray, and Peter Buchana.
Andy had a slew of bonus children and grandchildren, to include Lily “The Rocket” Douglass, Grace “The Professor” Douglass, Ian and Caroline Sidley, Destiny “The Pilot” Bevins, Brooklyn Hunt, Carson Ryder Mayo, Loretta Kate Coffman and last but not least, Colonial Brandon Douglass and bonus daughters a.k.a The Ladies of the Night, Jennifer “HRH My Princess” Douglass, Tina “My Baby” Terry, Jennifer “My Nurse” Sidley, Jessica “My Banker” Stoltz and Amber “My Girrrfriend” Hunt.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents Arturo and Georgina Molina Andazola, sisters Ophelia (Norton) Butler, Mary Lou Andazola, bothers Avelino Andazola, and Raymond Andazola.
A visitation for Andy will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church, 3910 Spring Ave SW, Decatur, AL 35603, followed by a funeral mass at 5:00 PM.
