Polly Starkey Hampton, age 80, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 27, 2021, after a two-month stay in Huntsville Hospital. Polly was born on September 18, 1940, in Winston County. She was the only child of Pauline and Simon Estes. Polly worked for the Social Security Administration before moving to the Department of Army Civilian Service. She retired as a GS-14, after a career in Financial Management.
Polly was fortunate to find love more than once in her lifetime, and was preceded in death by George Starkey, her husband of 42 years. She is survived by her husband of three and a half years, John Paul Hampton; her daughter, Donna Foster; and her granddaughter, Makenna Foster. She loved John Paul’s three children and seven grandchildren as if they were her own. Polly traveled with George in their motor home and spent winters in Florida and summers in the mountains in Georgia. She had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the piano, porcelain painting, playing Bridge, and spending time with family.
There will be a Celebration of Life on June 24th, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 2:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mike Lightfoot and Pastor Stephen Hampton and will be held at Cornerstone Community Church. Donna Foster will play the piano and Doug Thompson (Polly’s favorite Elvis impersonator) will perform. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HAPC Center for Loss, Grief and Change, and brought to the Celebration Service or mailed to 8100 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville, Alabama 35802.
