Pisgah Man Charged With Attempted Murder

STEVENSON, AL-The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department released a statement concerning the arrest of a Pisgah man who has been charged with Attempted Murder:

“On Saturday 08/07/2021 at approximately 10:30 P.M., Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, along with Officers from the Stevenson Police Department and Hollywood Police Department, responded to a shooting call on County Road 287 in Stevenson, AL.  The victim, James Jeremy OWENS, 40 years of age of Stevenson, AL., was found to have, one or more  gunshot wounds, but was able to identify the person who shot him.  OWENS was airlifted to a Chattanooga TN, hospital.  An immediate search was conducted for the suspect along with “BOLO” being with negative results.  

As of 08/08/2021, Owens’ condition was listed as critical but stable. 

On 08/09/2021, The suspect, Billy Dwight CARTER age 32 of Pisgah, AL, turned himself in at the Jackson County Jail, and is charged with Attempted Murder.  Bond has not yet been set on this charge. 

This is an isolated incident, no further threat to the community is known. 

This investigation is continuing as to the motive and events which led up to this shooting incident.”
