ATHENS-October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Mayor Ronnie Marks has signed a proclamation asking citizens to participate by wearing pink every Friday this month for Pink Parade Fridays. If your business, family, friends, church, etc. wears pink on Fridays, decorates offices or homes or yards in pink, please email me photos to share on our city Facebook and Twitter pages and with the the media.
Athens Fire and Rescue Auxiliary still is selling their breast cancer awareness T-shirts which would be great for Pink Parade Fridays. They are $15 for short sleeve and $20 for long. You can see the shirts in the attached photo at the proclamation signing. Call Dawn Blakely at 256-233-8710 for a shirt. Money raised will support the purchase of an MRI breast coil for Athens-Limestone Hospital. This software can be added to the MRA equipment and can detect cancer the size of a pin head.
This month, there will be a variety of events related to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation is hosting the Pink Elephant Luncheon on Oct. 16 at noon at the Limestone County Event Center. Ladies from the community have asked different men to wear heels as part of the program. Money raised will support mammogram scholarships to those in Limestone County. http://www. mypinkelephant.org/
Also, the Athens Fire and Rescue Auxiliary and Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation will hold a Paint the Rack Party on Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Limestone County Event Center. Cost is $40. Participants will pant bras and the best will be chosen for an auction. Mayor Ronnie Marks, Police Chief Floyd Johnson and Sheriff Mike Blakely will judge the best artwork. Call Dawn Blakely at 256-233-8710.
