Phyllis Darlene Gilbert, 91, of Huntsville, AL, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025.

Darlene was born on February 20, 1933, to Mable and Grover Lowe. She worked as the production control manager at Barber Coleman until its closure in the 1980s. A woman of strong will and generosity, Darlene was a committed blood donor to the American Red Cross and an enthusiastic traveler.

Above all, Darlene was devoted to her family, neighbors, and profession. As a single parent, she raised her four children with love, strength, and an unwavering dedication to instilling values that inspire all who knew her.

Darlene is survived by her ex-husband and faithful partner, Joe Barran; her children, Jennifer Jacobs, Tracy Watkins, and Tony Watkins; and her siblings, Ruth Tervol, Fran Taylor, Rick Lowe, and John Lowe. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jeff Watkins.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Laughlin Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. Family may arrive at 12:30 PM; there will be no other visitation arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross in her memory.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Diversicare Memory Care Unit in Arab, AL, and the caregivers from Amedisys Hospice for their loving support during Darlene’s final days.

Her love, strength, and unwavering commitment to those she cherished will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
