Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Phillip Hayes, age 63 of Decherd. Mr. Hayes passed from this life on March 19, 2020 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He was the Franklin County Property Assessor for 24 years, from 1988 and continuing through 2012. He graduated from Motlow then worked for TVA before becoming property assessor. In his spare time he enjoyed working on his farm raising beef cattle, collecting and trading guns, hunting and fishing. Mr. Hayes was a member of the Church of Christ at Oak Grove. He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Francis Gilliam Hayes and his father, Albert Morris Hayes; step-father, James Charles Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Helen Katherine Hayes (Thomas) Faris of Winchester; son, Phillip Morris Hayes of Marion, AL; the mother of his children, Helen Worley of Decherd; granddaughter, Penelope Kate Faris of Winchester. The family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home Saturday March 21, 2020 between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday March 22, 2020. Mr. Hayes will be laid to rest in the Morris Family Cemetery in Decherd following the funeral service.
