Philip Kyle Cornelison Sr. – Obituary

A memorial service for Mr. Philip Kyle Cornelison Sr., age 93, of Ashland will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist in Ashland with Reverends Bill Brown and Elvis North officiating.

Mr. Cornelison was born in Akron, Alabama and grew up in the Scottsboro-Skyline area where he graduated from Scottsboro High School, joined the U.S. Navy and served four years during WWII in the European Theater as a Pharmacist Mate, served in the Army Reserve for 25 years retiring with the rank of Major in the Civil Affairs Unit. During this time, he graduated from Command General Staff College and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) with a degree in Agriculture and retired after 30 years of service with the USDA as the District Conservationist and was responsible for building the Clay County Watershed Lake Systems. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, also active with SIFAT, Boy Scouts, Quarterback Club, Emmaus Walk, and loved helping anyone in need.

He is survived by two Daughters; Mary Bruce Cornelison Ogles (Charles) of Jacksons Gap and Cassie Cornelison Antonio of Ashland, one son; Philip Kyle Cornelison Jr. (Vicki Legg) of Mobile, five grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Virgil VanBuren Cornelison and Lorene Cunningham Cornelison, his wife of 65 years Mary Ellen Starnes Cornelison, five brothers and one granddaughter Allisa Ellen Antonio.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services at the church.
