Perry studied at business college in Jackson, TN before starting his work career. He retired from his last job of many years as an office manager for Memphis Delta Tent and Awning in Memphis, TN. Upon his retirement, he, along with his Mother, relocated back to Humboldt.

Perry was a member and elder of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Humboldt, where he considered it an honor and a privilege to serve his Lord and the church members and friends.

Perry’s lifelong passion was books. He collected and read thousands, with special interest in the murder mystery genre. Perry also wrote and had published a number of short stories with West Tennessee Writers. He was invited on occasion to entertain with his Mark Twain readings, in full Twain attire. Other many and varied interest of Perry’s included Gideon meetings, Bible studies, the Monday morning donut club in Jackson, book clubs and meetings, playing the organ, and supporting the MAGA movement. As he was with books, Perry was equally passionate about his cats…rescuing, nurturing and protecting them. They were a source of much joy to him.
