Mr. Percy Phillip Potter, 91, of Leighton, Ala., passed away Friday, March 8, 2013. His family will receive friends for visitation at Colbert Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 11, from 6-8 p.m., and on Tuesday, March 12, from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel with Brother Bobby Amos and Brother Phillip Potter officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Potter was a Reynolds Metals Co. retiree, enjoyed farming and served as a deacon at Faith Baptist Church of Leighton. He also served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Margaret Potter, wife, Hattie Corsby Potter, brothers, C.J., W.T., Hubie, Herman, Sherman, Claude and Corbett Potter, and sisters, Alice Owen, Mae Larimore, Eula Witt and Helen Hood.
He is survived by his sons, Phillip Potter (Nancy), of Leighton, Ala., Ronnie Potter, of Leighton, Ala.; daughter, Valerie Scott (Kip), of Spring Hill, Tenn.; grandchildren, Melissa Tolar (Luke), of Bay Minette, Ala., Jason Potter (Kerry), of Stone Ridge, Va., Kevin Potter, of Florence, Ala., Lindsey and Laina Scott, of Spring Hill, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Ethan Tolar and Jason Cody Potter; and brothers, Elvert Potter (Marie), of Russellville, Ala., and Edison Potter (Bea), of Russellville.
Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.
The family expresses special appreciation to Mr. Potter’s caregivers, Pat Brackin, Barbara Motes, and Hospice of North Alabama.
