Peggy Gentry, age 90 of Franklin, TN passed away January 4, 2024. She was born in Williamson County, TN to the late Bernard and Mae Sweeney. Peggy graduated from Hillsboro High School in Williamson County, TN. She attended Middle Tennessee State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education/ library science and graduated with honors. She then obtained her master’s degree from MTSU in administration and supervision. Peggy used these degrees in her 30 years as a librarian at Franklin Elementary School. Peggy had many interests. In her later life while living on the farm, she loved working in her flower garden and enjoyed making quilts and cross stitch embroidery. One of her favorite ways to relax included watching the cows, calves, and horses in the fields. At age 88, Peggy took on the chore of bottle feeding a calf which she enjoyed very much. After retiring from her professional career, Peggy and her husband, Bobby embraced the opportunity to travel and explore new places throughout the United States. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Bobby Gentry; daughter, Jane Gentry; sister, Agnes “Sis” Misuraca. Peggy is survived by her brother, Grady (Nancy) Sweeney; son, Bob (Cecile) Gentry; grandchildren, Calvert (Jason) McMahan, Brenna Gentry and Jenni Gentry; great-grandchildren, Preston and Holden McMahan, Wyatt Stegall and Harrison Gentry; nieces, Anne and Susan Sweeney. A private graveside service will be held at Hillsboro Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:00AM-2:00PM Monday, January 8, 2024 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Nashville Rescue Mission or Blue Monarch.
