Mrs. Humphrey passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Westhaven located in Summerford Health and Rehab. She was born October 7, 1945, to Jessie Widener and Vivian Fowler Widener of Eva.

Mrs. Humphrey was a caring and kind person who loved her family very much, especially her kids and grandkids. Most importantly, she set the example of what a Christian mother should be. She, along with her late husband, raised their kids in church so they too could learn about Jesus. She was a member of Etha Baptist Church where she served in various roles, such as teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir, amongst other things. The last 25 years, she was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church until her health prevented her from attending.

Peggie was the oldest of 8 children born to Jessie and Vivian Widener. She always helped her mama with daily chores and with her brothers and sisters. She attended Eva High School and graduated in the Class of 1964. She was a member of the Beta Club and received the “Good Girl Award” her senior year. Upon graduation, she went into banking and worked at a bank in Falkville, as a teller.

In 1965, she married Morris and the resided in Falkville. They welcomed their two children- Vickie in 1968 and Randy in 1972, and Amanda followed in 1980 and only lived a few short hours.

In the following years, she held several jobs doing secretarial work to help support her family, ultimately retiring from VF Jeanswear after over 20 years of service.

Mrs. Humphrey enjoyed taking vacations with her family to the Gulf Coast Beaches and to the Great Smokey Mountains as well as taking occasional trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains with her close friends, whom she loved like family. She also enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, and Braves baseball. She always supported her 6 grandchildren, who were her world, by attending school functions, sporting events and church activities. She spoiled each one of them with a favorite food, or a sleepover at her house.

Morris passed away in 2021 and shortly after, Peggie was diagnosed with dementia. It robbed her of her communications skills, but through all of her sickness, she always said “I Love You”. We will forever remember the loving person she was and she will live in our hearts forever.
