Paul “Leon” Hughes, 91 of Joppa, the Hulaco Community died Saturday, September 5, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Hughes was born October 20, 1923 in Cullman County, the son of John P. and Ada Chambers Hughes. He was a 1943 graduate of Fairview School and served in the United States Army during World War II.

He loved hunting and fishing and was a lifetime resident of the Hulaco Community. He was also an Elder and a faithful member of the Hebron Church of Christ.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Randy and Kathy Hughes; a daughter and son-in-law: Rhonda and Stanley Murphree; four grandsons: Brian Murphree (Autumn), Brett Murphree (Diana), Scott Hughes and Ben Hughes; two great grandchildren: Ashton Gail Murphree and Colton Murphree; preceded in death by his wife: Vera Lois Roberts Hughes (June 2009), his parents: John P. and Ada Chambers Hughes and a brother: J. R. Hughes.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Hebron Church of Christ, Brother Ronald Earwood, officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Pallbearers will be Ben Hughes, Dennis Latham, Brett Murphree, Brian Murphree, Allen Roberts, Matt Smith, Morgan Smith and Robert Whisenant. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doug Crowe, Russ Martin and Norman Roberts.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2015 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. He will also Lie-In-State at the Church on the day of the service from 10 to 11.
