Paul Dillon Gartman, 43, Homewood, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at his home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Birmingham, with Kip Laxson officiating. Burial will be in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 p.m. at John Ridouts Valley Chapel, Homewood.
Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel is directing the funeral.
Survivors include daughter, Payton Rebecca Gartman; sister, Polly Gartman Machen; brother, Noel Don Gartman; mother, Marcia Hubbard Gartman; father, Max Dillon Gartman; nieces, Anna Grace Machen, Joy Marie Machen, Destiny Danielle Gartman and Chandler Noelle Gartman; nephews, Clay Michael Machen, Kaleb Maxwell Gartman; sister-in-law, Amy Jones Gartman; brother-in-law, Michael Don Machen; dear friend and former wife, Amy Sanders Swann.
Pallbearers include Michael Machen, Clay Machen, Rob Grubb, Mark Bishop, Rod Gaddy, Kevin Johnson, Robbie Hillis, Scott McFarland.
Paul was a laid back, creative innovator, forgiving friend and unfailing optimist. He worked tirelessly to become an expert in marketing and strategy. He was a loving father, son, brother and uncle, and was dedicated to being kind and serving others. He promoted the unfailing and absolute grace of God, and passionately served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to colon-rectal cancer research at fightcolorectalcancer.org/do-something/donate or support the missions efforts of Woodmont Baptist Church at 2001 Darby Drive in Florence, Alabama, 35630.
