Paul Alfred Smith – Obituary

Paul Alfred Smith is another Marine that has marched into “Glory.” Mr. Smith was born April 14, 1932 in Columbia, SC as the youngest of four children to Roy E. Smith and Fairey Hiott. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Walter, and sister Ruth.

After graduation from Columbia High School in 1950, he volunteered for the US Marines. Mr. Smith served in the Korean Conflict in the 1st Marine Division for 16 months on the front line.

He returned to attend the University of South Carolina. and married Barbara Langston on January 28, 1955. He worked for Pontiac Motor Division and Southeast Toyota opening many dealerships in the southeast. Mr. Smith was active in church, community and civic groups in Florida. They moved here from Florida in 2010.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara; four children: Terry Lynn (Joel) Lonergan, Al (Debbie) Smith, Scott Smith, and Brooks Smith; seven grandchildren: Kristen (Dale) Jobes, Britney (Lee) Deutschendorf, Colvin (Cassie), Kyle Smith, Briana Smith, Matthew Hill, and Taylor Hill.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by a 3:00 memorial service with Rev. Mark Seanor officiating. Donations may be made to your favorite charity, Tutt Fann Veterans Home here in Huntsville where he had been for four years with great care, any veterans projects or support work for Parkinson’s Research.
