Patsy Jeannine Carter Roper, 78, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 18, 2014 after an extended illness.

The graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Knights of Pythias Cemetery Russellville, AL. Officiating at the service will be Bro. Richard Parker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva & Evelyn Carter; and brother-in-law, J.T. Seal.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Grove; two sons, Stuart Roper (wife, Delana), Carter Roper; two grandsons, Brock Cobaugh, Stuart Roper, Jr.; granddaughter, Aubriella Roper; and one great-grandson, Romeo; one brother, Bill Carter (wife, Margie), Decatur, AL; sisters, Betty Seal, Mary Jane Carter, and Martha Sorrells, all of Russellville, AL; and three generations of nieces & nephews.

She was retired from Bell South Telephone Company. She was a member of Austinville First Baptist Church in Decatur, AL. She taught toddlers in Sunday school for several years. She was gifted and unique in so many ways. She was an artist in multiple mediums, a talented writer of songs and music, several of her gospel songs have been used by quartets. She was a published author and poet, a devoted Christian, politically aware and involved, a loving wife, mother, and sister; and a treasure to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the medical and nursing staffs at Decatur General Hospital (5th Floor), as well as to Dr. Charles Prickett and Hospice of the Valley for the love and care of our family.
