Patricia Lee Chambers Hoel, 86, of Athens passed away Sunday, November 6.
Mrs. Hoel was born July 19, 1930. Finishing high school in Washington D.C., she moved on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Education from Auburn University, Alabama, in 1953. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority at the university. After she graduated she moved to Florida to teach school. Throughout her life, she worked as a school teacher, social worker and census taker, and she enjoyed meeting the newpeople she encountered in all her jobs. Her friends and family knew her for her sense of humor and her love of animals. She would often take in stray cats and dogs, and stop to help any injured animal she came across.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Miriam Chambers, and her husband, Franklin M. Hoel.
She is survived by her two sisters, Margaret Lane Blake and Mitzi Malone, both of Athens; her sons, David and his wife, Joyce, of Germantown, MD, and Greg and Scott of Athens; two grandchildren, Michael and Caroline, of Germantown, MD; and three nieces and two nephews.
Services were held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, at Athens City Cemetery with Limestone Chapel directing. Burial was in Athens City Cemetery.
The family would like to express its thanks for the wonderful help, care and support given by Hospice of Limestone County, Limestone Health Facility, Limestone Chapel and all of the many good friends and family.
