Patricia Ann Herring, age 86, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on January 7, 2026. She was born on January 18, 1939, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to John Elbert and Clytee Lummus Marcy and grew up in the proud community of Eggville, Mississippi.
Patricia, affectionately known as Pat, was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Pete” Herring. The two shared 47 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Jon Bailey; her brother, J.E. Marcy; her in-laws, Gene and Georgette (Tiny) Herring and Billy and Sue Herring.
She was a graduate of Mooreville High School and Itawamba Community College. Throughout her working life, Pat was employed by Penn Tire and the Mississippi Department of Health. She was also the proud owner of The Woodshed, where she shared her passion for art by teaching classes to hundreds of students. Pat was a uniquely talented artist across multiple mediums, and many of her cherished works live on in the homes of her family and loved ones.
Pat delighted in cooking her signature recipes and joyfully sharing meals with those she loved throughout her life. She was a longtime active member of West Main Church of Christ in Tupelo, Mississippi. For the past eight years, she attended the Church of Christ in Green Hills in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was grateful to have formed many cherished friendships after moving to Nashville.
She is survived by her daughter, Mardecia Sutton; her son, Tom Herring (Mary Beth); her grandchildren, Tyler Sutton (Melissa), Stephen Sutton (Tina), Chris Sutton (Mikaela), Garrett Sutton (Julia), Mimi Herring Healy (Patrick), and Clay Herring; her great-grandchildren, Knox Burrus, Evelyn Sutton, and Harrison Sutton; her sister and best friend, Dean (Russell) Wood; and her brother, Danny (Cathy) Marcy.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 3 PM Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with burial in Lee Memorial Park in Verona. Visitation will be begin at 1 PM Saturday, 1/10/2026 at Holland-Tupelo, which is honored to service their friends.
