Over 300 Anglers Expected in Decatur for MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League Regional Championship Next Month

Illini Division Ready to Roll - Major League Fishing DECATUR-Over 300 anglers are expected in Decatur the second weekend in October for the Major League Fishing Phoenix Bass Fishing League Regional Championship. Hosted by Decatur Morgan County Tourism, the three-day tournament is set for Oct. 7-9, 2021, and will attract anglers from Alabama, Indiana, Georgia, Kentucky and Ohio.

The Phoenix Bass Fishing League, presented by T-H Marine, offers weekend anglers the best payouts and advancement opportunities for one of the lowest entry fees available anywhere. It is the only circuit where anglers can fish close to home, with opportunities to advance to nine no-entry-fee championships, including the All-American and Toyota Series Championship, for a shot at winning top boater awards of $120,000 and $235,000, respectively.

Anglers competing in the Phoenix Bass Fishing League regional championship on Wheeler Lake will be battling it out on the water for a $60,000 top boater award, including a Phoenix 819 Pro with 200 HP Mercury and $10,000 plus $500 to $7,000 Phoenix MLF BIG5 Bonus and a $50,000 top co-angler award, including a Phoenix 819 Pro with 200 HP Mercury. Winners are determined by heaviest three-day catch.

Wheeler Lake is part of the Bama division, one of 24 divisions that compete in the Phoenix Bass Fishing League circuit. The top 45 boaters and co-anglers plus tournament winners in each of the 24 divisions advance to Regional Championships. The top six boaters and co-anglers from each Regional Championship and the Wild Card Regional advance to the All-American. The highest-finishing boater and co-angler from each Regional Championship and the Wild Card Regional at the All-American advance to the Toyota Series Championship.

For the Wheeler Lake regional championship, takeoff and weigh-in each day will be at Ingalls Harbor located at 802-A Wilson Street NW in Decatur. Takeoff is set for 7 a.m. with weigh-in beginning at 3 p.m. Fans are encouraged to follow the event online through the BFL Live weigh-in broadcasts at https://majorleaguefishing.com/circuits/bfl/.
