Tommy Oswalt

“I was born and raised in Colbert County, Alabama and graduated with honors in 1985 from Colbert Heights High School.  Immediately following graduation I entered the United States Marine Corps.  While in the Marines, I had numerous deployments overseas, was meritoriously promoted and participated in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  I was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for “outstanding job performance”, and in 1992 I received an Honorary Discharge and returned home to Muscle Shoals having served six years of active duty.

Two years prior to returning home, I married Luisa in Atlanta, Ga.  We’ve now been married almost 24 years and have 4 wonderful children.  Our oldest two daughters are in college while our younger two are still in the Muscle Shoals school system.

Regarding my work history, I spent 19 years working at a Decatur Chemical Plant – originally known as Monsanto, then Solutia and finally Ascend Performance Materials – with my last position being a Nightshift Operations Supervisor.  During my time there I also served as Nylon Intermediates Safety Coordinator, Nylon Intermediates Hiring Manager, and I coordinated the payroll for Nylon Intermediates.

In 1998, while still at Solutia, I obtained my Real Estate license and worked at Century 21. In 2004, I also obtained my property and casualty license and worked with Farmers Insurance.

In 2009, my wife and I decided to take a chance and open a business in Muscle Shoals.  We opened a sandwich/coffee shop and called it the Trojan House, hence reviving an old name.  Many folks still remember the old Trojan House from back in the 60’s.

Prior to my appointment to Revenue Commissioner by Governor Bentley, I was working as a Production Supervisor at Hillshire Brand in Florence, Al.

I was honored to have received this appointment and I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Colbert County with honor and integrity

 Thank you,

Tommy L. Oswalt”
