Ossie A. Watts Brown, the second child of the late Oscar and Catherine Bailey Watts, was born on May 30, 1921 in Cherokee, Alabama.
She professed a hope in Christ at the Macedonia Methodist Church in Cherokee, Alabama, and after moving to Leighton, Alabama she affiliated with Mount New Home Missionary Baptist Church where she was an Eastern Star, a member of the Missionary Society and on the usher board.
She was a graduate of Cherokee High School and attended Alabama State College.
During her twenty-nine year career as a licensed practical nurse she was employed by the late Dr. John Rice, Florence, Alabama, Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, Florence, Alabama and Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, Alabama.
She was the widow of the late Vinson Brown of Leighton, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vinson Brown; two brothers, Oscar Watts Jr., Edgar Allen Watts; and one sister, Safronia Watts.
Ossie “Momma Ossie” Brown is survived by two sons, Franklin K. Brown (Regina) Sheffield, Alabama and Thomas B. Brown (Carrie), Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; three daughters, Rachel Qualls Blaylock, Park Forrest, Illinois, Helen Hudson, Waukegan, Illinois, Bessie Eloise Nicholson, Leighton, Alabama; one step-daughter, Mary Bowden, Racine, Wisconsin; three sisters-in-law, Fannie C. Neloms, Temple Hill, Maryland, Candis Martin, Waukegan, Illinois and Susie Hollingsworth, Rockford, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; sixteen great, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Family hour will be Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Thompson and Son Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at Mount New Home Missionary Church, Leighton, Alabama on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 1 p.m.
