Oscar Nelson James, 84, of Tuscumbia, Ala., passed peacefully into God’s loving arms on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
Visitation will be Thursday 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 2 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Darren James, Brandon Archer, Tristan Archer, Fred Weeks, Dr. Jimmy Gardiner, De Wayne Howard, Harry Porter, Jackie Bevis and Larry Sanderson.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Hovater James; son, Tommy Nelson James (Cheryl); and daughter, Pamela James Archer (Joey); three grandchildren, Darren James (Rachel), Brandon Archer (Kalli) and Tristan Archer; three great-grandchildren, Emma and Ava James and Jack Archer; sisters, Faye DeVaney (Donald) and Becky Hightower (Barry); nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Omie James; brother, Horace James; and sister, Betty James.
He was a deacon at Hook Street Baptist Church and was known for his love of and participation in gospel music. He was retired from the Colbert County Bus Garage, where he worked for almost 43 years.

Nelson was a kind, loving and gentle man, who influenced many people by his quiet example. To all who knew and loved him, he is once again “just right.”
