Mr. Oral Delmas Lawrence, age 91, of the Morgan City community of Lacey’s Spring, Alabama passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 30, 2025 at his residence. Oral was born December 4, 1933 in Morgan County, AL. He was the son of Eugene Franklin Lawrence and Mary Margaret Lemley Lawrence. Oral was a lifetime resident of the Morgan City community and a member of Brindlee Mountain Baptist Church. He married the love of his life, Betty Ruth Dean, as soon as she finished high school. The two had shared over 71 years of married life when she passed away just a short nine months ago (DOD 4/4/2024).
Oral, along with Betty, was owner and operator of a successful car dealership, Lawrence Motors, located in Morgan City. He was always interested in cars and for a while refurbished and showed vintage vehicles. In his younger years he spent his leisure time, when not tinkering with a vehicle, either gardening, camping or fishing. He took great pride in his family. His wife, daughters, grandson and great grandson were all extremely important to him. He was the best father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be missed.
Surviving Oral and cherishing precious memories include his daughters and sons in law, Barbara and Samuel Spratt and Charlene and Jerry McCutcheon; grandson, Josh McCutcheon (Morgan); great grandson, Will McCutcheon; and brother, Donald Lawrence.
Family members preceding Oral in death include his wife, Betty Lawrence; parents, Eugene and Mary Lawrence; sisters, Lillian Hoxey and Virginia Cobb.
Friends and family will gather at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel in order to honor, pay respects, recognize his contributions and say goodbye. The funeral service will be at 2:00. Brother Eldridge Criscoe will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery at Morgan City. Escorting Oral to his final resting place will be Jerry McCutcheon, Josh McCutcheon, Don Allison, Mike Prince, Donnie Lawrence and Lamoyne
