One ALDOT Worker Killed…Another Injured In Accident on I 65 At TheTennessee River

traffic_fatalityDECATUR-An employee of Alabama Department of Transportation was killed on Thursday morning, April 14 and another employee has been injured.

The two were hit on the bridge over the Tennessee river on Interstate 65 by a passing vehicle according to authorities. It occurred where workers were removing traffic cones from the work site in the northbound lane around 5 A.M. Thursday morning.

The accident is being investigated by State Troopers.  No information has been released on the injured worker.  It is unknown at this time if the driver of the vehicle was injured.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency:

“An Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) employee was killed at approximately 5 a.m. today, April 14, after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 65 near the 335 mile marker, one mile north of Priceville.

The incident occurred when two northbound vehicles collided before striking a parked ALDOT vehicle and two ALDOT employees, both pedestrians. One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene. The second pedestrian was injured. Drivers of both vehicles were also injured.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.

The Alabama Department of Transportation will issue a release later today with their employee’s names.”
