Omand Eugene “Gene” Morris, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026.
Born on August 8, 1939, in Annapolis, Maryland, to Allen Thomas Morris and Mildred Welch Morris, he is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Jeannie Childers Morris, and their daughter, Callie Morris Murrey. His sister-in-law, Rebecca Malone Morris of LaPlata, Maryland, and several close cousins also survive.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Morris and Alvin Morris, both of Maryland, and his son-in-law, William Harwell “Bill” Murrey, Jr.
A longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, he served in many different capacities, including the Administrative Board, Staff Parish, a Trustee, a Sunday School teacher, and a Stephen Minister. In addition, he was a supporter of Boy Scouts of America and was honored with the Long Rifle and the Silver Beaver Awards. As a member of the Pulaski Exchange Club, he served as President and Chairman of the Butter Bowl, a post-season charity football game hosted in Pulaski at Sam Davis Park. He was a member of the Pulaski Masonic Lodge for over sixty years, a member of Al Menah Shriners, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority for over thirty years.
Mr. Morris was an avid sports fan, serving as a volunteer assistant for the Giles County High School Bobcat Football team.
The visitation will be 1:00pm to 3:00pm Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, TN.
The memorial service will follow at 3:00pm, August 9, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 West Jefferson Street, Pulaski, Tennessee, 38478, or the Giles County High School Football Team, 200 Sheila Frost Drive, Pulaski, Tennessee, 38478.
