Ollie Clay Bowling, 92, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012. He was born in Morgan County, AL on February 15, 1920 to Clarence and Girtha Bowling and attended Moulton High school. In his early twenties, Ollie joined the Army Air Corps prior to the US’s entry into World War II. He was among the first American fliers to arrive in the United Kingdom where he served with the Air Corps’ 8th Air Force and flew as a tail gunner on B-24s. After returning home he worked for Ford Motor Company in Monroe, Michigan, for 9 years and retired from Ford at the Muscle Shoals location. He had lived in the Underwood/Petersville community for 53 years before his wife died in March 2011. At death he lived with his daughter Elizabeth & husband Javan Maynard, of Texarkana, TX. His home congregation was Petersville Church of Christ until he moved to Texas.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Greenview Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park with military funeral honors accorded at graveside.
Mr. Bowling was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Voncile Moore Bowling.
He is survived by a son, Randal Bowling & wife Bonnie, daughter, Elizabeth B. Maynard & husband Javan; siblings, Evan Bowling, Sue B. Johnson, Melba B. Montgomery, Jean B. Parker, & O. D. Bowling; grandsons, who will serve as pallbearers, Justin Maynard, Derrick Maynard, Blake Maynard, Jonathan Bowling, Jason Bowling and Jeremy Bowling; 9 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
