Olene Shook McDaniel – Obituary

Olene Shook McDaniel, age 94, died on May 4, 2017, at her home in Waterloo. She was born on Sept. 25, 1922, in Shaw Hollow, Ala., to Wallace Dudley Shook and Anna Ethel Stanphill Shook.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Bumpus Creek Cemetery in Waterloo. Bro. Jimmy McGee will officiate.

On October 16, 1943, she married George Milton McDaniel, in Big Sandy, Tennessee. They were married for 70 years before death parted them in 2014. She was a woman of great faith and a lover of music. She was known for growing beautiful flowers.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her son, Ronald Lane McDaniel in 2007; her brothers, T.C. Shook, James Shook and Kennon Shook; and her sisters, Polly Waters and Louise Russell.

She is survived by her sons, Robert McDaniel of Waterloo, and Donald McDaniel and wife, Charlotte Robertson McDaniel of Florence; her daughters, Martha Sharp and husband, Kenneth of Waterloo, and Sarah Holcombe and husband, Terry of Wesson, Miss.; her granddaughters, Kimberly McDaniel Payne and husband, the Rev. Chad Payne of West Blocton, Ala.; Heather McDaniel of Washington, D.C., Bonnie McDaniel McClure and husband, Matthew of Bremen, Ga.; her grandsons, Kyle Holcombe and wife, Jessica, of Wesson, and Daniel Holcombe, and wife, Tullia, of Greenville, Miss.; her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Lydia Payne, Micah and Harlan McClure; and Emma, Caleb and Rose Holcombe; her daughters-in-law, Jan McDaniel of Georgia, and Karina McDaniel of Nashville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
