ZIP CITY – Yes… Last year’s Horseless Rodeo was a fun and unique event. No doubt! A rodeo without horses? What? How can that be? In all truth who says a rodeo has to have horses anyway? The Quad-Cities Daily was out there last year. The reporters observed hundreds of people in their cowboy hats and boots… By all measures the folks were having an excellent time. There was post-hole digging, and skillet throwing and all sorts of ‘cowboy stuff’ going on, And lots of cake and candy auctions… Lots of food. But there wasn’t a horse in sight. Or sure… Over in an adjacent field there were a couple of horses… They were actually sad looking since they were left out of the festivities. But that’s a horse’s life. Right? They will get over it.
This Saturday, is the next Horseless Rodeo. And by all measures, it is going to be bigger and better. So make your plans. The Horseless Rodeo benefits the Zip City Volunteer Fire Department, a dedicated band of professional men and women who, except for a love of their community, get nothing for their efforts but to keep their neighbors safe.
And the Zip City Volunteer Fire Department is in critical need of some new equipment. They need a couple of first-response vehicles. And they need some equipment. Stuff like new ‘jaws-of-life’ tools. Air tanks and breathing masks. Electrical generators and hydraulic pumps. And more… These are the tools of their trade. Much of the stuff the firefighters are using today was donated years ago. And it’s wearing out. So it’s time to replace. And the Horseless Rodeo, anchored by Robert Walker, is the year’s big event to get things done for the Volunteers.
So, will you come out and help out? It’s going to be a blast. Bring your Cowboy / Cowgirl, and your kids… Really. you’ll love it! This Saturday at 11:00am.
Here are some photos of some of the emergency response gear that needs to be updated. Thanks Volunteer Firefighters for all you do!
