Off-Duty HPD Officer Charged With Capital Murder In Madison Shooting

MADISON-On Friday, January 7 Madison Police report a shooting on Lawsons Ridge Drive. According to police an investigation revealed HPD officer David McCoy, 28 has been placed on administrative leave and the investigation has been turned over to SBI.

McCoy was booked into the Madison County Jail on Friday Night on Charges of Capital Murder with no bond.

Details of the shooting have not been released and when further information becomes available we will report it here.

At 11:44PM on Friday ALEA’s SBI released the following statement:

 On Friday, Jan. 7, at the request of the Huntsville Police Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) responded to a death investigation at approximately 11 a.m. at Lawsons Ridge Drive in Huntsville. SBI Special Agents arrested and officially charged David McCoy, 28, of Madison with Capital Murder. McCoy, who is an officer with the Huntsville Police Department, was off duty at the time of the incident.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office. ALEA would like to thank the Huntsville Police Department for their cooperation throughout the investigation.”
