Obie Hershel Cummins was born on January 22, 1928. He was the son of the late Ellen Blalock Cummins and Lincoln Cummins. Obie was a specialist in the Army. He served his Country for 2 years and saw parts of the world such as New Foundland and was also stationed in Colorado. After his time in the military, he worked in sawmills and worked at Michigan Screw for almost 30 years as a Machinist. He assisted with building houses and doing mechanic work. He enjoyed working on starters and alternators and even had his own shop at his house. Obie was well known all over Wayne County for his expertise of starters and alternators and his willingness to help everyone.
He was united in marriage to Elsie Marie on June 5th, 1964. She was the love of his life and best friend. He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mr. Obie departed this life on May 12th, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family and knew he was very loved.
He is survived by Daughter, Cynthia Vaden (Carroll) of Collinwood; Sons, Mike Cummins (Carol) of Detroit, MI, Keith Cummins (Becky) of Nashville, TN, Lynn Cummins (Christy) of Florence, AL, Tim Cummins of Huntsville, AL; Theresa Prince (Alfred) of Cleveland, OH, Danny Haddock (Sue) of Elkhart, IN; Grandchildren, Jamie Caperton (Shawn) of Collinwood, TN, Anna Stults (Matt) of Collinwood, TN, Brian Cummins of Nashville, TN, Nicole Cummins of Nashville, TN, Jeremiah Haddock (Fritz) of Rockledge, FL, Jodie Haddock of Waterloo, AL, Elizabeth Messing of Vancouver, WA, Jennifer Wrobel (Greg) of Shelby Township, MI, Shannon Cummins of Florence, AL, Lynn Jr, Cummins of Florence, AL, Wendy Hamm, Elkhart, IN., Brothers, Lester Cummins of Lawrenceburg, TN., David Cummins (Linda) of Collinwood, TN., James Cummins of Waynesboro, TN., Sister, Linda Johnson of Dixon, TN. He is survived by a host of Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
He is joins in eternity, his Wife, Elsie Marie Cummins; Mother and Father, Ellen and Lincoln Cummins; Brothers, Carl Cummins and Marshall Cummins; Sisters, Ruby, Veda, Ruth Ellen, and Mildred; Son-in-Law, Steve Vaden.
The visitation for Obie Hershel Cummins will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN, on Thursday, May 16th, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the Funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
