O.D. (Dee) Gafford McDougal – Obituary

Mrs. O.D. (Dee) Gafford McDougal, 91, formerly of Florence, Alabama, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 4, 2016.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Greenview Memorial Chapel in Florence, Alabama. The funeral service will be held there at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, with Brother Chris Underwood of Highland Baptist Church officiating. Burial in Greenview Memorial Cemetery will follow.

O.D. is survived by her son, Thomas Dennis McDougal and his wife, Dixie, daughter-in-law, Carol McDougal, grandson, Jay McDougal, granddaughter, Denise LeGalley with her husband Colby LeGalley, and great-granddaughter, Kynslee LeGalley, all of College Station except for Carol who resides in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. O.D. is also survived by her brother, Raymond Gafford and his wife, Helen, of Floresville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. McDougal; son, Michael Allen McDougal; mother, Beulah Gafford; father, Isaac Gafford; brothers, Charles and Bobby Gafford; and sister, Elaine Gafford Sullivan.

O.D. was born May 15, 1925, and graduated from Etta High School in Etta, Mississippi. She married Thomas A. McDougal, of Birmingham, Alabama, in 1945, and they were married for 68 years until Thomas’ death in 2013. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker for those years in Memphis, Birmingham, and Florence, Alabama. O.D. served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a ladies Sunday school teacher and faithful member of Highland Baptist Church in Florence, Alabama for 50 years. Thomas and O.D. moved to College Station, Texas in 2012 to be close to their family in times of failing of health.

The family wishes to thank the Isle at Watercrest Assisted Living of Bryan, Texas, Encompass Homes Health and Hospice of College Station, Texas and her nurse, Ms. Amy Landry, and Ms. Lou Parker and family of Florence, Alabama for loving care during her last years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Highland Baptist Church building fund in Florence, Alabama.
