MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) officially opened the TVA Community Credit Union (TVACCU) Walking Trail at Patriot Park on the Shoals campus with a ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon (3/5).
Prior to the ceremony, Heather Montgomery, TVACCU board member and TVA Senior Director of Labor and Employee Relations threw out the first pitch of the Patriots baseball conference opener against Southern Union State Community College at 12:00 PM.
A brief ceremony was held prior to the ribbon cutting. NWSCC President Dr. Jeff Goodwin opened the ceremony with his appreciation to TVA Community Credit Union. “We have several great community partners that support Northwest Shoals, but our friends at TVA Community Credit Union made this possible today,” said Goodwin. “We could not be more thankful and excited to officially open the TVA Community Credit Union Walking Trail today. We still have more to come, but this is the next step toward reaching our vision for Patriot Park and the resource it will be for our community. “
The TVACCU Walking Trail at Patriot Park offers the students, staff and community another outdoor resource to use while enjoying nature and getting exercise.
TVACCU Marketing Director Alyssa Ashley-Guin added how grateful they were to be a part of the community resource Northwest Shoals was working to provide the community. “TVA Community Credit Union is extremely honored to partner with Northwest Shoals Community College on this exciting project,” said Ashley-Guin. “This walking trail is more than just a path. It’s an avenue for our community, designed to offer a safe, accessible, and beautiful space for promoting health and well-being while creating a community connection.”
According to NWSCC Advancement Director Katie Smith, the trail includes a half mile path that will include a pollinator garden and a playground as well. “We are really excited about the future for Patriot Park and making it a place that individuals of all ages can enjoy while taking in Patriots athletic events.” stated Smith.
