MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) Adult Education Program had approximately 53 students participate in the 2020-2021 GED/Nontraditional High School Graduation ceremony last Thursday, July 29, 2021, on the Shoals Campus.
According to the NW-SCC Adult Education Program, 148 students have completed requirements for their GED from May of 2019 through July of 2021. An additional 15 students have completed requirements for the nontraditional high school diploma.
“We are so proud of what these graduates have accomplished in such a difficult time,” said Tara Branscome, NW-SCC Director of Adult Education and Ready to Work Program. “For so many of them to go through the pandemic and finish what they started, shows how driven they are to succeed in their educational goals and in their chosen careers. They inspire me every day.”
The nontraditional high school diploma was rolled out by the state at the end of 2016. The nontraditional high school diploma helps students who either dropped out of high school without earning the necessary credits to graduate or did not pass one or all parts of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (which is no longer given).
