UPWARD BOUNDMUSCLE SHOALS/PHIL CAMPBELL– The Upward Bound program at Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) has been funded for $642,600 by the U.S. Department of Education.

Upward Bound housed at NW-SCC consists of two programs which will receive funding for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.
§ Phil Campbell Program – $369,600; serves specified schools in Colbert, Franklin, and Winston County
§ Muscle Shoals Program – $273,000; serves specified schools in Colbert, Florence City, and Lauderdale County

“The Upward Bound Program along with the other TRIO programs housed here at TRIO_logoNorthwest-Shoals are vital to so many of the people in Northwest Alabama,” said NW-SCC President Dr. Humphrey Lee. “The services offered by the TRIO Programs are designed to remove obstacles toward a post-secondary education. Without these programs many students would not be able to realize their dream of a college degree.”

The Upward Bound Program identifies and assists those who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on and complete their postsecondary education.

The Upward Bound program is one of three TRiO programs, including Talent Search and Student Support Services, at NW-SCC. The programs are 100 percent federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
