MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest-Shoals Community College’s (NW-SCC) Automotive Service Technology program was recently named Local Contributor of the Year by the Alabama Association for Public Continuing and Adult Education (ALAPCAE) at their annual conference in Birmingham, Ala.

According to Tara Branscome, Director of the NW-SCC Adult Education and Ready to Work programs, the Automotive Service Technology program has been partnering with the Adult Education program since 2018 to offer contextualized education, a process of learning by focusing on the direct application of skills.
“The Automotive Service instructors, Eric (Creekmore) and Danny (Carson), have been amazing partners for the Adult Ed program at the College,” said Branscome. “They were willing to think outside the box and teach their students as a team with our Adult Education instructors. Their students are making amazing strides in the classroom and in their hands-on automotive training.”
The support of Adult Education by the Automotive Service Technology Program along with the successful integration of academics has paved the way for adult education services to be expanded into other career technical programs at NW-SCC.
“The other career technical programs and their students are going to be really glad they partnered with our Adult Education program,” said NW-SCC Automotive Service Technology instructor, Eric Creekmore. “Their teaching methods really helped the light to come on for many of our students.”
ALAPCAE consists of Alabama Adult Education programs located at community colleges throughout the state. The mission of ALAPCAE is to promote public awareness of the Alabama Adult Education program; to address the professional development needs of Alabama’s adult education practitioners; to recognize excellence of instructional services; and to provide scholarships to deserving GED graduates throughout Alabama.
