SHEFFIELD  – It was a real special lunch Wednesday at Park Place, the senior independent community in Downtown Sheffield. Mrs. Della Gwynne Rhodes celebrated her 105th birthday with friends and caregivers.

The Quad-Cities Daily was there to take a few photos of the occasion. We asked Mrs. Rhodes what were some of her favorite things to do. She replied, “I love to shop for clothes!” She was wearing a lovely dress, she purchased earlier this week at Regency Square Mall in Florence. She told us that she shops there often. On her last shopping trip, she said that she had  a great seafood lunch at a restaurant nearby. We asked if she goes out often. “I love to travel to Huntsville and Memphis. I go there all the time”, she explained. Sarah Tubbs, Mrs. Rhodes’ caregiver of 25 years told us that they get out into town quite often.

We asked Mrs. Rhodes how it feels to be 105. “Old!”, she exclaimed with a big laugh.
