f2b690d4-de81-47d5-b002-08b84ae11eeeSHEFFIELD – Remember, back in the day how our teachers would hand out those little Valentine’s Day cards? You know… They were on a perforated sheet of paper, and said things like, “Be My Valentine!” Cute. We would hand them out to our classmates, and the fun would last for 15, 20 minutes. And then it was back to Reading, Writing, ‘Rithmetic… Well, thanks to the V.F.W. Auxiliary #8640 , some Sheffield children had an opportunity to learn a meaningful lesson about sacrifice and giving.

This is the 2nd year of a program that the Auxiliary instituted. Leaders, Mary Stephens and Sandra Hodges visited Sheffield Head Start, L.E. Wilson Elementary and the W.A. Threadgill Primary Schools on Tuesday to collect over 200 Valentine’s Day cards from the students. The cards, made with great care by the children, are headed to the Veteran’s Hospitals in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. The Service Members who are patients at the hospitals will each be presented with a card.

Well not to be outdone…Sheffield’s L.E. Wilson, Mrs. Booth and Ms. Wassners 4th grade classrooms got in on the act with a few Valentine’s of their own Councilwoman Ms. Mary Stevens along with Mrs. Sandra Hodges came along to help:
