Northwest-Shoals to Celebrate Black History Month

black-history-month-logo_250x322-232x300MUSCLE SHOALS/PHIL CAMPBELL– Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) announces events in celebration of February as Black History Month. This year’s events include music, an inspirational speaker and a taste of “Soul Food”.

The NW-SCC Cultural Affairs Committee will hold a special program Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at 12:15 p.m. in the Student Center on the Phil Campbell campus with Dr. Joyce Stallworth, Associate Provost at the University of Alabama, speaking. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 12:15 p.m. in the Hospitality Center on the Shoals campus Mr. Rod Sheppard, Principal at the Florence Freshman Center will be speaking. The Black History Program will feature music by Gabrielle Fuqua and the NW-SCC Chorale on the Shoals campus. The Phil Campbell campus will feature music by the NW-SCC Chorale and Jazz Ensemble.2014_Chorale

served as Head of the Department of Secondary Curriculum, Teaching and Learning in the College of Education from 2000-2004, as Assistant Dean for Teacher Education from 2003-2004, and as Interim Associate Dean in 2004 before being named Senior Associate Dean of the college. Stallworth earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education at UA in 1988, her Master’s Degree in Education-English at Auburn University, Montgomery, and her Doctorate in Education at The Peabody College of Education at Vanderbilt University.

Roderick Sheppard is Principal at Florence Freshman Center. Sheppard is a graduate of Northwest-Shoals Community College. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, and his Master’s degree in

Administration from the University of North Alabama. He also received his Ed. S. Ed Leadership in 2007 from the University of North Alabama. Sheppard is currently a student of the doctoral program at Samford. He is President elect of the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals, immediate Past President of the National UNA Alumni Association, on the Alabama Council for Leadership Development and Florence Civil Board. Sheppard is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is the 2013-2014 President of the University of North Alabama Alumni Association.
