MUSCLE SHOALS & PHIL CAMPBELL-Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) is pleased to announce a notable 11 percent increase in enrollment for the Spring 2024 semester. Total enrollment has reached 4,302 students, up from 3,882 students in the Spring of 2023.
“We are excited to see such a significant increase in enrollment for the Spring 2024 semester,” stated NWSCC President Dr.
Jeff Goodwin. “This growth highlights our desire to educate our community, particularly in training the skilled workforce of tomorrow. It’s noteworthy that spring enrollment rarely surpasses the fall, making this achievement even more remarkable.”
The college is particularly pleased to observe a substantial 15.5% growth in dual enrollment, reflecting NWSCC’s strong partnerships with local high schools and the desire of students to earn college credits while still in high school.
Additionally, NWSCC has experienced a nearly 7% increase in first-time freshmen, demonstrating the college’s appeal to new students seeking quality higher education opportunities.
“It is a great testament to our team and partnerships to continue the increase of first-time freshmen,” said Dr. Crystal Reed, NWSCC Dean of Students. “The College is working every day to meet our community and students where they are. I believe our continued growth speaks to that commitment we have for serving our community however we can.”
NWSCC saw an increase in students taking only online courses as well as key career technical courses on-campus. Students taking online only courses saw an increase of 21 percent over last year. On-campus career technical programs saw their largest increase in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) (up 48%). Also, four other programs saw increases over last spring: Accounting (up 78%), Welding (up 9.5%), Carpentry (up 7%), and Medical Assisting Technology (up 5%).
