MUSCLE SHOALS – Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) has officially opened the Career Center on the Shoals campus. Earlier today, the College held an open house for members of the community, a ribbon cutting with the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, and a tour of the facility.

The new NW-SCC Career Center offers services for current students to prepare them to make informed decisions as they identify their strengths and values while discovering future paths for success. Services offered through the Career Center include: career planning, community job board, resume assistance, interview preparation, the Career Closet, work-based learning (apprenticeships and internships), and the Federal Work Study program.

โ€œWe are so excited to open our new Career Center,โ€ statedย NW-SCC Presidentย Dr. Glenda Colagross.ย โ€œWe have been looking forward to this day and what it will mean to our students. This will give our students a central place to go and get one-on-one attention while developing their career path.โ€

NW-SCC Career Services Coordinator Amanda Terry Peters has already experienced tremendous support from the community and the Collegeโ€™s faculty and staff. โ€œThe partnership we have with Colbert County Department of Human Resources and Cato Corporation through our Career Closet will be amazing for our students,โ€ said Peters. โ€œThrough generous donations, we are able to offer our students professional attire that they may not have previously had available to them. We hope this will help build our studentsโ€™ confidence so they can make a great first impression on job interviews.โ€

The NW-SCC Career Center is located on the Shoals campus of Northwest-Shoals Community College in the Victor P. Poole Administration Building (Bldg. 100). The center is now open for all NW-SCC students on Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Plans are being made to have a Career Center presence on the Phil Campbell Campus as well.

The creation of the NW-SCC Career Center was funded through the U.S. Department of Educationโ€™s, Title III – Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP).
