ATHENS-The first annual North Pole Stroll will kick off Saturday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Duck Pond in downtown Athens. Lowe’s donated live trees to the City of Athens for a public display, and the Mayor’s Office, Spirit of Athens, Athens-Limestone Tourism Association, Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful and Limestone County Archives came up with the North Pole Stroll.
Various businesses and local agencies have sponsored trees for $100 each and decorated them with themes ranging from ornaments made with photos of preschoolers, chirping birds, tourist event photos and more.
Athens Police will have a car and Athens Fire and Rescue will have a fire truck for kids to see. The firefighters and officers will hand out candy canes. Members of East Limestone High School’s choir will sing carols. Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful will sell hot chocolate.
The display is free to the public and will be open through Jan. 1. Learn more at http://www.athensnorthpolestroll.com/
